Hello ladies welcome back , and if you are new here, welcome and glad you're here! You know the world today has just gotten to be so fast-paced and ever-changing. For most of us, at this age, it's just hard for us to even wrap our heads around how fast-paced things have gotten. The months, days, and even years seem to fly by. It's difficult to keep track of anything, and we feel like we are in a whirlwind. We feel like robots sometimes, with our batteries needing to be recharged from time to time. Well, that is exactly what is needed, especially mentally. It is detrimental at our age to discover ways in keeping a healthy and positive mind-set. Also to re-energize ourselves! Ok, let's us talk about ways to do just that.

As seniors, our priorities as well as our perspective have changed. We now view our lives in retrospect. Looking back and remembering our loved ones who are no longer with us, we are seeing more of our friends that are passing away. We reflect on our childhood memories and experiences and we yearn for those days again. Life was just so simple and easy back then, right? Another layer is health issues we may be experiencing or that of a spouse, etc. Each year, we realize that we simply cannot do what we once did, as in our younger years. Many of us seniors fall into a depression due to everything I have stated above. Well, again let's talk about ways that we can protect our mental health, and perhaps view life in a more positive light, in an effort to continue to live our best lives.

Let's start with community and getting involved volunteering, perhaps at your local food bank or shelter. It can be very rewarding and you will find that it gives you a sense of fulfillment when doing so. You in addition will meet and interact with others who may share the same interests. Another way is gardening, which happens to be my personal favorite. It's just something about being amongst nature that soothes my soul! Create a sanctuary for yourself be it in or outdoors. I did this myself in my backyard, Your own personal happy place and space, surrounding it with the things that makes you smile. It could be just sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch , and having a cup of morning brew watching the sun come up. Another suggestion is to invite a friend and meet up at coffeeshop for "girl talk' which is always a great way to release stress and anxiety, Just sitting laughing, talking and reminiscing . Perhaps going for a walk, it doesn't have to be a power walk, just a slow and easy stroll at your local park or around the corner even. Take a vacation, even if it's a short two or three day get a way, if your budget permits. Now, this is a really good one, turn off the local and national news for a few days. I find that watching the news creates a lot of anxiety for us seniors, just so much is going on today that we have absolutely no control over. We sometimes have to just detach from all the chaos! Listening to your favorite artist, or visiting an art exhibit is another one, Spending quality time with family doing family oriented activities, Lastly, but certainly not least, is spending quiet time in prayer and mediation. Grounding yourself in the "Word" and just focusing on teachings or just spending quiet time with a good novell is always relaxing. All of these things can help our mental state as we move forward in the aging process. We still have a lot of life in us, however, the mind controls the body and if the mind isn't healthy, we won't be able to move forward in doing anything. Also please note that we must be intentional about it! You will discover that once you have made that first step, well the rest is a piece of cake!
